It’s never too late to express your appreciation to those people who have made a difference and so we would like to take a moment to recognize some very important people involved with Rest Haven and the extraordinary things they have done, not only in 2019 but for some of them, decades!
Ophthalmologists and Opticians Making a Difference!
Lisa Steinhoff at Hillcrest Optical, Dr. Lawrence Cooper and Dr. Michael Couris at Vision Care have all been providing free eye exams and discounts on glasses for children in the San Diego Unified School District. \They have been donating their time and resources and working with Rest Haven for decades to insure that children who need glasses, but have no financial resources to obtain them, can receive them.
Rest Haven honored these magnificent practitioners with plaques of gratitude for their years of service to the children in our communities. We are so grateful for their unending commitment to giving back. A special thanks to Mary O’Connor, a Rest Haven Board Director who provided her time and resources to provide for and present these well-deserved plaques.
A Family Legacy
Lisa Steinhoff, Optician at Hillcrest Optical, is not the only member of her family to be involved with Rest Haven. It turns out that her mother was one of the original children who stayed at the Rest Haven Preventorium for Children in its early days and Lisa remembers her mother having fond memories of Francis “Ma” Mead, Rest Haven’s Founder, and her stay there. Below is a picture of Lisa’s mother around the age when she was at the Preventorium and if you look closely at the picture of the children with Ma Mead on the right, you can see that Lisa’s mother could very well be the little girl on Ma Mead’s lap! Lisa has carried on her family’s legacy with Rest Haven and we are ever so grateful for her continued involvement and support over the years.
Rest Haven Director Helped to Deliver World’s Smallest Baby!
It was all over the news and so you may have heard that the world’s smallest baby was born at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital right here in San Diego in December, 2018, but what you may not have known is that she made history when she was released in May of 2019 as the world’s tiniest baby to ever survive! It takes a very special team of people to make this happen and, what you also may not have known is that Dr. Paul Wozniak, a neonatologist at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital and a Director on Rest Haven’s Board, was an integral part of that team as the neonatologist involved in her delivery. Rest Haven is so fortunate to have such wonderful people on our Board who are so committed to improving children’s lives. Thank you to all 17 of our wonderful Directors!
Shortfuse Marketing – Giving Back
Once a year Rest Haven Children’s Health Fund gives grants to community agencies who share our mission and every year, Bridget Palitz, President of Shortfuse Marketing, donates her time and services to do a press release on behalf of Rest Haven. Thank you Bridget from the bottom of our hearts!
